In the world of gaming there are a lot of lists. There's the top ten endings, the top ten most anticipated games of 2008, the top ten boss battles - the list goes on forever (no pun intended). It's no surprise that Metal Gear shows up in many many top ten lists. For that reason I've compiled the most recent lists that feature Metal Gear. Come inside to see how Metal Gear finished in some recent lists.

GTAIV.ws took a reader poll to decide the Top Ten Greatest Game characters of all time. Solid Snake ranked number 3, beating out Samus Aran, Sonic, Master Chief, and Pikachu. He was beat by Link and Mario. An acceptable conclusion I suppose.

It's the end of the year and everyone is looking ahead to 2008. PCWorld listed the ten Most Anticipated Video Games of 2008. Metal Gear Solid 4 was at the top of their list ahead of, well, every title, but most importantly GTA IV, which came in at number 5. Gamepro also listed the top 48 Best Games of 2008. Metal Gear Solid 4 came in second behind GTA IV - aarrg. It's apparent that GTA IV is a title that could derail MGS4's and the PS3's success. Gamedaily also listed 2008's Most Anticipated Games. Their list of 20 didn't seem to be in any particular order with Metal Gear Solid 4 showing up somewhere in the middle.

It's a little bit late for this one, but 1up came up with the Top 10 Turkey Games for Thanksgiving. The list of ten games that didn't live up to their hype puts Metal Gear Solid 2 at number seven. They argue:

"We spent years salivating over the shocking attention to detail in that tanker, then got it swapped out for bare, identical catwalks and hexagonal rooms. Our gruff, confident protagonist is traded out for a gender confused boy who spends the rest of the game on the phone with his passive-aggressive girlfriend."
Although I liked MGS2, I'll admit that the hope of playing as Snake really helped me push through the Big Shell episode. My hopes were crushed, but in the end I still thought it was a great game. A turkey, perhaps, but a damn fine turkey.

Gamerhelp listed the Greatest Video Game Intros of All Time. The famous intro from Metal Gear Solid 2 is number 10. I remember playing the demo for the first time. Snake's first words, "The Hudson River..." still echo in my brain.

411mania listed the Top Ten Best Endings Ever. Metal Gear Solid 3 was ranked number one! The epic battle between The Boss and Naked Snake a.k.a. Big Boss was truly unforgetable. That battle and it's ultra dramatic finish was just the begining of what I also consider to be the best ending in all of video games.

Lastly, Games.net's infamous Net Ten features Metal Gear on several occasions. Here are some classic Net Tens you might have missed out on, all featuring Metal Gear.
