I'm a sucker for weapons with long names; the longer the name, the more awesome the weapon is. By this logic, the United States Navy Mark 14 Mod 0 Enhanced Battle Rifle ranks right up there with the best of them.
The Mark 14, which is what I'll refer to it as for obvious reasons, can be used in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It can be purchased from Drebin for 9,000 Drebin Points, but it can also be found on most PMC snipers. It can be outfitted with a supressor, laser sight, and flash light.
The Mark 14 is a fairly new rifle, with initial creation beginning in 2000 after the Navy requested a more compact M14 battle rifle for SEALs. The United States Special Operations Command asked weapon designer Mike Rock of Mike Rock Rifle Barrels, Inc. to designed the rifle, which Rock collaborated with engineer Jim Ribordy to do so. Their product, while effective, had noise issues.
A few years later, Ron Smith and Smith Enterprises Inc. whipped up their own version of the M14, which turned out to be a success. Their model was then used as the basis for the final model, which was manufactured by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division.
The Mark 14 Mod 0 EBR takes the standard M14 and adds a handful of new features, including a telescoping stock and a pistol grip, making equipped for both long range and short range action.
The rifle has been praised for being ergonomical and having low recoil, but criticized for being much heavier than the standard M14 rifle.
