The Madbull GSG-1 Stun Grenade
The stun grenade has been with the Metal Gear Solid series since the beginning and remains a powerful part of your arsenal.
Stun grenades, oftentimes called a flashbang, are non-lethal. Their purpose is to disorientate or "stun" their target. They can oftentimes affect their targets for up to a minute.
The M84 stun grenade gives off a blinding flash and deafening blast. Standard operating procedure for LAPD SWAT is to deploy flashbangs at the point of entry, where all attention will be focused.
The light from a stun grenade activates all photosensitive cells in the retina, causing anyone caught in the blast to lose vision for around five seconds, until the retina can return to its original state. During those five seconds, victims see a single frame as if their vision was paused. Gamers, especially those who play first-person shooters, know this all too well.
The reason this happens is because the sensory cells that have been activated continue sending the same information to the brain over and over again, until they've been restored to their resting state.
Meanwhile, the loud bang from the grenade affects the target even more by disturbing the fluid in the semicircular canals of the ear.
The grenade itself remains intact to prevent any injury from shrapnel. Injuries can still occur, however. For example, the intense heat the grenade creates can ignitie flammable materials.
