The original Metal Gear Solid hit the North American PSN last week, almost eleven years after it first debuted on the original Sony PlayStation. Gamepro's Dave Rudden immediately posed the question of how gamers will find Meryl's codec number with no box. I don't know, Dave. I don't know.

But let's find out!

After some slow, painful searching on a friend's awful internet connection, I have come to this conclusion:

You can find Meryl's codec number in the game's manual by using the PS button. That said, I'm sure most people are just going to get it online.

Dave also brought up some questions about Psycho Mantis and the various tricks he pulls, and whether or not those will work on the PS3. Apparently he still vibrates your controller if you're using a DualShock and he still reads your virtual memory card, but not your HDD.

As far as swapping controllers, you seem to be able to achieve the same effect as in the original game by hitting the PS button and changing ports from there.

The game also asks you to swap disks, though I'm not sure what you do in that case. To be safe, freak out and panic about there not being a second disk.

Thanks for playing, Dave!

I'm so happy MGS is finally available on PSN. If I didn't have my green label copy, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

And Dylan, you're right. The best way to play it safe is by freaking out. :P

Freaking out and throwing things is the best course of acton. And snapping controllers in half.
