The Browning M2 Heavy Machine Gun makes an appearance in both the original Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This big chugalugalug machine gun is not to be taken lightly.

In Metal Gear Solid, the M2 is mounted on Vulcan Raven's M1A1 Abrams tank. It would tear Snake to shreds if he got too close. In Guns of the Patriots, the M2 usually shows up as a PMC support weapon, mounted on Humvees, boats, and even by itself. M2s are also mounted on Gekkos.

The M2, sometimes called the "Ma Deuce", was designed by John Browning around the end of the first World War. It has many specific designations, and the offical designation for the current infantry type is Browning Machine Gun, Cal. .50, M2, HB, Flexible. Personally, I prefer "Ma Deuce."

The M2 is effect against infantry, lightly-armored vehicles, including boats and aircraft, and light fortifications. To this day, it's still used extensively as a mounted vehicle weapon and is the primary heavy machine gun of NATO countries, with very little modern improvements. "They don't make'em like they used to" my grampy used to always say. Well, he didn't really, but if he did this would be an appropriate time to quote it.

This is a very interesting gun with a lot of history behind it, so I'm going to break this Weapon Wednesday into multiple parts. Come back next week for part duece!
