This week I wrap up my trilogy on the M67 fragmentation grenade. I would've posted this yesterday, but I was having trouble with my internet. Don't worry, we had a long talk and we're fine now.
So - you have an M67 grenade and you're not sure how to use it? That tells me that you're not in the military, but you still somehow got your hands on a grenade, which terrifies me. Well, better to be safe than sorry!
First things first, you need to stand in the "throwing position," which includes your feet being spread apart and the grenade held in your dominant hand near your abdomen. From this position, you'll remove the safety clip from the grenade.
Insert the index finger of your non-dominant hand into the pin of the grenade, making sure that your dominant hand is holding down the safety lever. The pin is bent to decrease the chance of accidentally pulling it and you must pull hard enough to straighten the pin out. Instead of pulling the pin, pull the grenade away from the pin. Assuming the safety lever is still in place, you know throw the grenade at your target.
The appropriate thing to yell when tossing a grenade is "frag out," which warns others that you've done so. Shout "grenade" to warn others of an incoming grenade.
Once you've thrown the grenade, the safety lever will fly off. This frees a spring-loaded firing pin which snaps over onto a percussion cap, which then lights the time delay fuse. A few seconds later, the grenade detonates.
Alright, you kids play safe now, you hear?
